Hilton inducts ninth Hall class
On Friday, December 29 at the Holiday Basketball Tournament in the gymnasium, Hilton Athletics inducted the ninth class into its Athletic Hall of Fame. The inductees were: Ryan Mee, Class of 2001, Soccer, Basketball and Baseball; Ray Nichols, Class of 1929, Baseball and Basketball; Sue Parkhurst, Class of 1987, Cross Country, Indoor Track, Track & Field; Dave Pitoni, Class of 1986, Wrestling and Coach George "Bud" Rose - Men's Varsity Soccer coach, Men's Basketball coach. They are the 65-69th athletes/coaches recognized since the Hilton Athletic Hall first began to honor inductees in 1998.
Aside from graduating from or coaching at, Hilton High School, according to a press release the qualifications are: "has been out of school a minimum of five years; individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Hilton sports program or have established themselves in the field of athletics on the local, state, national or international level; a student who, while in high school, received athletic honors such as All-American, All-State, All-Greater Rochester, State/Sectional Championship, Athlete of the Year, or All-County, (overall team success and multiple-sport participation may also be considered); any student who participated in Hilton High School athletics may be considered under special circumstances."
Members of the selection committee are: Tom Coyle '55 former Hilton statistician and record keeper; Ron Hendershot '64 former Hilton athlete and 2000 Sports Hall of Fame inductee; Dick LeBeau, retired HCSD teacher and administrator, soccer coach, and former HCSD athletic director; Debi Lipani, Hilton Physical Education teacher and coach; Ory Mee, Chairperson, retired HCSD Boys Varsity Basketball and Baseball coach; Chuck Partridge, Hilton High School teacher and Wrestling coach; Mike Whelehan '75 former Hilton athlete and coach; Mike Van Auker '65 former Hilton High School teacher and coach; and Denny Wilcox, current HCSD Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education.
