The following students have been named to the dean's list for the 2006 fall term at Johnson & Wales University: Daniel Ange of Hamlin, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sports/Entertainment Event/Event Management from the Hospitality College at the Denver Campus; Joseph Kincaid of Brockport, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sports/Entertainment/ Event Management from the Hospitality College at the Charlotte Campus and Augie Espenmiller of Hamlin, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sports/Entertainment/ Event Management from the Hospitality College at the Charlotte Campus.

To receive dean's list commendation, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or above.


Three Monroe County residents have each been awarded scholarships to attend Alfred State College.

Carolyn Lyons of Churchville was awarded approximately $12,300 for the "Excellence in Education Scholarship." Lyons is slated to graduate in 2007 from Churchville-Chili Senior High School and intends to enroll in the architectural technology program.

Julia McCormick of Churchville was awarded a $1,000 "Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship." McCormick is slated to graduate in 2007 from Byron-Bergen Central School and intends to enroll in the nursing program.

Eric Jongsma of Spencerport was awarded a $1,000 "Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship." Jongsma is slated to graduate in 2007 from Spencerport High School and intends to enroll in the undeclared major program.

The "Excellence in Education Scholarship" (free tuition, room (double occupancy), and board) is awarded to students who possess a 93 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1200 combined SAT score or a composite ACT score of 26; students must apply for financial aid. Recipients must maintain a required GPA (grade point average) to continue to receive funding in subsequent semesters.

The "All-American Scholarship" (free board) is awarded to students who possess an 88 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1100 combined SAT score or a composite ACT score of 24. Recipients must maintain a required GPA (grade point average) to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters. The "Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship," based on scholastic achievement, is from the Educational Foundation of Alfred, Inc.


Air Force Airman Zachary R. Weneck graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

He is the son of Sylvia Weneck of Hilton and is a 2006 graduate of Hilton High School.
