The Sweden-Clarkson Bisons 12 and under travel baseball team was selected to participate in a baseball tournament in Cooperstown in August. Teams from across the U.S. and Canada participate in weekly tournaments at the Cooperstown All Star Village. The Bisons will play during the week of August 4 through 11. Each team will play a minimum of seven games over the course of the competition using a round robin format. The team consists of 11 players and two coaches. The coaches will stay with the teams in barracks type housing similar to the Little League World Series accommodations in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Each player will receive a participation ring, two jerseys and a ticket to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. The cost to participate will be approximately $700 per child and coach and an umpire fee. Fundraising for the team will be going on leading up to the August tournament. Fundraising has included hot dog sales, glove and hat sales and a bottle and can drive. Upcoming events will be a spaghetti supper on January 27 at the Sweden-Clarkson Recreation Center from 4 to 7 p.m. and a chicken barbecue on April 21 at Ryan's Big M. Anyone wishing to donate bottles and cans can go to the SunnKing Recycling Center behind Dominos Pizza on Main Street, Brockport and tell them to add them to the "Bison Blue" account.
