Local gymnasts win at Graffiti Invitational
The Bright Raven Gymnastics girl's teams performed well at the 12th annual Graffiti Invitational held at the Convention Center in Niagara Falls in January.
The Level 9 Team earned second place with 17-year-old Kerry Apeland of Churchville winning first place all around (35.525) in the Senior Division. She also took first place on two events: the uneven parallel bars (9.325) and floor exercise (9.125). Justine Picciano of Henrietta captured first place on balance beam (9.15) and third all around (34.625). Audrey Stahl of Clifton Springs took second place on beam (9.125).
Competing in the Level 10 Junior division, Taline Lahcanski of Penfield took second place on floor exercise (9.525). In the Senior division, Kailee Spusta of Macedon placed second on both balance beam (8.15) and floor exercise (9.225). Helen Zickl of Batavia earned second place on the uneven bars (9.275) in the Level 7 competition for ages 10-11.
The Level 6 team was awarded third place with Megan Stevens of Brockport taking first place on beam (9.725), second place on vault (9.35) and third place all around (36.875) in the 10-11 year old age division. Megan Normann of Livonia earned third place on both beam (9.50) and floor (9.00). In the 12 and over age division, Hannah Fouts of Brighton placed third on beam (9.60).
The Level 5 Team also brought home the third place team banner with Karina Kyle of Brockport winning first place on beam (9.575) in the 10-year-old division. In the seven to nine age division, Alison Steinmetz of Greece earned third place in three events: vault (8.925), bars (9.125) and floor (9.05) and also took third all around (36.25). In the 12 and over division, Rebecca Lloyd of Rush was third on floor exercise (9.15).
Bright Raven's Level 4 team took the second place team award with Allison Prem of Hilton winning first place on beam (9.60) and third place on floor (9.30) in the 9-year old division. Maggie Callan of LeRoy tied for first place on bars with a high score of 9.80. In the 10-year-old division, Tess Diskin of LeRoy was first on bars (9.65), third on vault (9.425), and third all around (36.15). Teammate Maddie Plucknette of Churchville was second all around (36.425), second on bars (9.475) and third on floor (9.15). In the 11 and over category, Sarah Daniels of Churchville won first place on beam (9.575) and third on floor (9.45). Julia Shire of Chili earned third place on beam (9.275) in the 6 to 8 age division.
