Holley romps on senior night
Garrett DeFillips, Ken Ryan and seniors Justin Widrig and Tom Eberlin recorded pins and eight other Hawks were victorious in an easy 54-12 win over Williamsville East in varsity wrestling.
DeFillips scored a pair of reverses before pinning his man at 5:38 at 103 lbs. and Eberlin scored ten first period points and a pin in 2:33 at 152 lbs. Widrig barely broke a sweat with a pin just 12 seconds into his 140 lb. match. Ryan won his 130 lb. bout with a pin in 3:05 after scoring ten points.
Quintin Murphy began the match with a 10-2 major decision at 96 lbs. while seniors Matt Banks, Matt Sanders, Cezary Jachimowicz and Key McPherson all celebrated their final home match with victories as well.
Banks scored takedowns in all three periods in a 7-2 win at 125 lbs. and Sanders registered a reverse and two points on a near-fall after two scoreless periods to take a 4-1 victory at 135 lbs. Jachimowicz scored a takedown in the third period and added two points on a near fall late to secure a 9-5 win at 171 lbs. and McPherson played with his opponent to score a pair of takedowns and 12 points on near falls in a 16-1 technical fall at 189 lbs.
Sean Baylor and Demetrius Mendes closed the match with forfeit wins. Holley, now 8-0 in dual meets this season, is ranked third in Section V Division 2 and 10th among New York State small schools.
