Cadets take Bracket title
After getting in early foul trouble in the semi-finals, senior Mike Fowler netted 24 points to lead Hilton to a 55-47 victory over Brighton to win the Bracket Two championship. The Cadets had little trouble beating Pittsford-Mendon 70-54 in the first round.
Against Pittsford-Mendon, the Cadets had a lackluster start and trailed in the first quarter by as many as five points. In the second quarter, they went on an 18-8 run to take the lead for good led by Shane Galatio's six points.
"With the snow day off, we were a little flat," said Hilton head coach Troy Prince.
After Mendon hit a three-pointer to open the fourth quarter, Hilton converted on four straight trips to put the game out of reach.
Galatio led the Cadets with 21 points and Cal Palumbo had 15 points with a team-high eight rebounds. Hilton received offense from 10 different players with Joe Huton scoring nine points with four assists and Andy Eichas chipping in with six points.
Kenny Henry paced the defensive effort with seven rebounds and six blocks with Matt Seils also hauling down seven boards.
Hilton finished the regular season 16-4 and was seeded third in Class AA for the Section Five playoffs. They played sixth-seeded Greece Arcadia Friday night in the second round with the winner advancing to the semis at Blue Cross Arena.
