Calling all anglers: fish tales at the fish hatchery

The Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park invites anglers of all ages to the hatchery building at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 10 to share their favorite fishing stories and photos. Captain Bill Kelley of the Mighty Angler will present a slide show depicting some catches during his charters on Lake Ontario, and, weather permitting, will bring the famed The Mighty Angler to the hatchery building.

Hatchery staff will also be on hand to teach visitors about the fish being raised at the hatchery. There is no charge for this event, but reservations are recommended. Call the Fish Hatchery at 585-586-1670 to register, or for information.

Other upcoming hatchery events include a fly tying demonstration and casting clinic on March 17 and the Riedman Foundation Opening Day Trout Derby on April 1.

The Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park, funded and operated by the Riedman Foundation, is open all winter long. This popular family destination provides a unique opportunity to view several varieties of fish in various stages of development. There are more than 20,000 fish currently being raised at the hatchery. In addition to the trout, the hatchery raises Chinook salmon and Perch.
