Brockport in NCAA's
SUNY Brockport's men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA playoffs with an at large bid after dropping the SUNYAC final 80-75 to Plattsburgh.
Brockport's first round opponent was Williams College (16-11) with the winner to face the victor of St. Lawrence versus Elms College. Williams beat Brockport in the second round of the 2004 NCAA playoffs. The three-game series took place at St. Lawrence; a place the Golden Eagles won an NCAA playoff game in 1997.
In the conference finals, the Golden Eagles shot just 30 percent from the floor in the first half and trailed by eight at the half. They then stormed out of the locker room outscoring the Cardinals 15-6 in the first five minutes to take a one-point lead.
Mychal Wilkes' three-pointer made it a four-point lead before Plattsburg regained their composure netting two consecutive old fashioned three-point plays to retake the lead for good during a 16-4 run.
The Golden Eagles, trailing by 16 with two minutes remaining, ran off a 16-6 spurt of their own including three three-pointers from Sherod Harris before time expired.
Harris led all scorers with 31 points - 28 coming in the second half. Brandon Williams hauled down a game-high 17 rebounds and scored 19 points. The rest of the team combined for 25 points.
Brockport entered the game as the top seed after finishing with a 14-2 conference record. The loss broke a 14 game winning streak dating back to January 16 and was the first loss at home of the season. Brockport has previously won six SUNYAC titles including two consecutive in 2000-01 and 2001-02.
Harris and Williams were named to the SUNYAC All-Conference First Team as well as the All-Tourney Team. Freshman Cantrel Parrish was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Year after joining the team mid-season.
