County/City 911 Center recognized as national
model for intergovernmental cooperation
The County/City 911 Center is the recipient of the prestigious 2007 Outstanding 911 Center Award from the E 9-1-1 Institute in Washington D.C. The award, which was presented at the fourth annual awards gala in Washington D.C. on March 13, recognizes the community's 911 Center as a leader in technology implementation and a national model for inter-governmental operations and cooperation.
Under this unique agreement between Monroe County and the City of Rochester, the 911 Center provides dispatching services for 16 police departments, 45 fire departments, and 32 emergency medical services agencies throughout Monroe County. The 911 Center is located in a building owned and maintained by the city. Monroe County covers the operating costs as well as provides all the radio, telephone, and computer equipment for the center. There are 176 city and three county employees stationed at the center.
In 2006, the 911 Center received 1,147,494 calls and processed 1,206,530 CAD events for the agencies it serves.
