Libraries host trip to teen writers festival

The second annual Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival is a day-long celebration of young adult books and authors happening Saturday, March 31 at Fairport High School. One of the few large area events planned just for teens, 11 authors are participating this year, including well-known fantasy author Tamora Pierce.

The Friends of the Seymour Library and the Ogden Farmers' Library are sponsoring a bus for the festival. For $1, a teen will get transportation to the event.

The bus will leave the Seymour Library at 9 a.m., stop at the Ogden Farmers' Library at about 9:30, and move on to Fairport. Teens will return to the Ogden Library at around 5 p.m. and the Seymour Library at 5:30 p.m. Pizza and soda will be on sale in the Fairport High School cafeteria, or participants can bring their lunch.

A general assembly of teens from all over Monroe and surrounding counties will be followed by break-out sessions where teens can join smaller groups with the different authors. Teen entertainment will run throughout the day. A book sale and author signing session will bring the day to a close.

For information about the Teen Book Festival, visit www.teenbookfestival.org or call an area library. Teens in grades 6 through 12 can sign up for bus transportation by calling the Seymour Library at 637-1050 or the Ogden Farmers' Library at 352-2141.
