It's cold. It's green. It's wet, but if it gets kids to read, then it's okay with Holley Elementary Principal Lee Ann Cervini. She recently got "slimed" because her students read with a parent for 15 minutes a day, five days week from March 5 to 19 as part of the Parents As Reading Partners program. This year's theme was "Rain or Slime, It's Reading Time." The school kicked off the program on March 2 by playing a game show, Name That Character, during which teachers challenged students with questions that revealed the school's reading experts. The incentive to slime their principal was also announced. With every completed reading sheet, students received a green "slime" sticker to add to the mural of their principal and the slime bucket. The goal was to have the bucket overflow with slime stickers and it did. Students celebrated reaching their goal by gathering in the gymnasium to watch their principal get slimed.
