Paint the Town Purple & Relay For Life
emphasize cancer awareness

On May 1, Rochester westside communities will take part in the American Cancer Society Paint the Town Purple. Local businesses, village and town buildings will "paint the town" with ribbons, posters, balloons and tee shirts in purple, the color used to symbolize all types of cancer. Residents are encouraged to wear purple and/or display purple ribbons and balloons to raise awareness in the fight against cancer and its elimination.

Those whose lives have been touched by cancer, including caregivers, patients, survivors and those who have lost loved ones, will now have an opportunity to participate in the battle against cancer.

Paint the Town Purple will precede the 8th annual Westside Community Relay For Life which is one of over 4,400 events being held across the country. Relay is an overnight activity where teams of people are formed from businesses, clubs, organizations, churches, families, friends or schools and take turns walking around a track to raise money and to support cancer awareness. There will be entertainment and activities all evening. Relay For Life will be held June 1-2, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. at Spencerport High School Soccer Stadium. For information or to form a team, contact www.acsevents.org/relay/ny/spencerport or call 964-3415.
