Ruggeri tosses fourth no-hitter
Senior pitcher Tina Ruggeri hit one batter, walked one and struck out seven to register her fourth career no-hitter for Spencerport in a 9-0 win over Churchville-Chili.
The Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Christina Antonelli singled and later scored on a Whitney Rodak double. Ruggeri then tripled home Rodak.
After scoring three more runs in the second - two on an Antonelli double - Spencerport tallied two more runs in the fourth on Rodak's two-run home run over the fence in left.
In the home sixth, the Rangers' Rachel Taylor led off with a bloop single to left and later scored on a wild pitch. Ruggeri, who had earlier singled, finished the scoring when she crossed the plate on Ashley Tarasco's infield single.
Churchville-Chili had two innings end with runners caught trying to steal second base and had two runners reach base in the seventh inning on errors before the final out was made.
Spencerport was playing without outfielders Jessica Merrick, Tracey Bunce, Ashley Schriener and Alyssa Campbell, who were out with injuries.
The Rangers improved to 3-4 following a 1-4 southern trip.
