Maxon homers twice
Kendall grad Rachel Maxon homered twice in the nightcap to help the Brockport Golden Eagles to a 2-1, 5-0 doubleheader sweep over visiting RIT to improve their record to 22-8. Maxon led off the first game with a walk and came around to score the first run on Rochelle Cantor's RBI single to center.
After the Tigers tied the game with a run in the second, Brockport right fielder Amie Chase hit a solo home run over the fence in left center for the game winning run.
Freshman Kelly Briscoe allowed just two hits and struck out six to pick up her seventh victory.
In game two, Maxon led off with a home run and added another two-run shot to left in the sixth. In between, Kalie Peters drove in Brittany Schnautz on a fielder's choice in the second and the third baseman had an RBI of her own with a single in the fifth.
Amanda Traylor scattered five hits in picking up her first shutout of the season and her fourth win.
"I wanted to come in this year and do better with the year of experience," said Maxon. "Last year I hit well in Florida and then slumped the rest of the season. This year I feel like I can read the pitches better. I'm more confident and trying to focus on base hits."
"We tend to play to our level of competition," said head coach John Dumaw. "A big plus for us this year has been the home runs. We'll be a three or four seed in the SUNYAC Tournament; we're just a shade below Plattsburgh and Cortland."
The Golden Eagles broke a team record during the doubleheader for home runs in a season with 32 and counting. The previous record was 30 set in 1997.
