Saints up-end Spartans
Trailing by a goal in the second quarter, Churchville-Chili scored six unanswered tallies over an eight-minute span on the way to an 11-7 win over Gates Chili in boy's lacrosse.
Doug Hemink began the string of goals at 8:36 of the second quarter with Ben Rossignolo scoring unassisted off a loose ball just 41 seconds later to give the Saints the lead for good.
Freshman John Hemink took a pass from Ryan Grogan and scored at 11:07 of the second followed by Jaime Englert just prior to half time. Englert and Cory Mee netted goals early in the second half to take the Saints to a five goal lead.
Gates Chili staged a three goal comeback in the third quarter to pull within two goals, but C-C won the ensuing draw with Rossignolo scoring on a short-hop effort from Brian Briggs just 10 seconds later.
Doug Hemink completed his hat trick in the fourth and Gino Marcello finished the scoring with two minutes remaining. "This was not our best game; we played as individuals," said Hemink.
"We didn't play the game we are capable of," said head coach Logan Roberts. "I think our guys' heads were on other things plus there were a few college coaches here. That and Gates was ready after we beat up on them pretty good last time."
Englert had a four point game with a pair of goals and two assists while Rossignolo also registered three goals for the Saints, who improved their record to 8-1.
