Anne Huot, PhD, has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York College at Brockport.

Huot brings a comprehensive background in issues impacting public higher education from mission review to middle states accreditation, academic program development to budgeting, assessment to student services, and experiences with external constituencies to institutional development.

In addition, Huot, who holds a PhD in cell and molecular biology from the University of Vermont, will become a professor in the college's Department of Biological Sciences. She will officially begin her duties on July 1.


Emily Knight, a 2005 graduate of Spencerport High School, is one of 10 finalists participating in the Best Visual Illusion of the Year Contest, an international competition hosted by the Neural Correlate Society. The competition is in Sarasota, Florida on May 12.

She is a junior at Bucknell University majoring in neuroscience.


Matthew Beres graduated from the University of Buffalo with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

He is the son of John and Georgeann Beres of Hamlin and a 2003 graduate of Kendall Jr./Sr. High School.


Amanda Pelcher, a psychology major at SUNY Geneseo, was one of only seven juniors inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious honor society in the liberal arts. Phi Beta Kappa members must demonstrate intellectual integrity, tolerance for other views and a broad range of academic interests. Previously, she was admitted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and the Golden Key International Honor Society, for her academic excellence.

Danielle Pelcher, a musical theatre/dance major at SUNY Fredonia, was awarded the Jack L. Cogdill Scholarship for Academic Excellence. This award is given to a first year theatre major with talent and potential as a creative artist.

Amanda and Danielle are Brockport High School alumni and the daughters of Michele Spring and the late Richard N. Pelcher.


Alexandra Liccione, daughter of Tony and Patty Liccione of Hamlin, has been named to the spring 2007 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester with a 3.9 average.

Liccione, an honors and service scholar and a sophomore, is a business major with a concentration in finance and a minor in accounting.

To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 grade point average for the semester. Liccione is a 2005 graduate of Brockport Central High School.


The following Johnson & Wales University students have been named to the dean's list for the 2007 winter term. To receive dean's list commendation, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or above: Katrina Collinsworth of Brockport, who is majoring in hotel management and Daniel Ange of Hamlin, who is majoring in sports, entertainment and event management.

Army National Guard Pvt. Jodi S. Souhala graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

Souhala is a 2002 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.
