Cannon will boom at annual community music festival

For the past 12 years, the Village of Churchville has been filled with the sounds of music and the aroma of roasting chicken on one Sunday afternoon in June. This year the boom of cannon fire will also resonate on that day. The 12th annual Community Music Festival, sponsored by the Churchville-Chili Music Boosters, will be held in front of the Churchville-Chili Senior High School from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 3. The festival is free and open to the public. The day-long event will begin at 1 p.m. with the third grade chorus from Chestnut Ridge School. Throughout the day, 22 of the district's choirs and bands will offer a variety of musical genres, from classical to popular. The afternoon will conclude with a performance of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" by the senior high's wind ensemble. They will be assisted by the Bedford Light Artillery Group. All former Churchville band members invited to join the Wind Ensemble for this performance. The Churchville Lions will serve an annual chicken barbecue for $6 and will begin serving at noon. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be moved to Gym A of the senior high school and the barbecue to the junior high cafeteria. For information or to join the performance of the "1812 Overture," contact Kevin Mead at (585) 293-1800, ext. 3170, or kmead@cccsd.org.
