BOCES 2 Center to host culinary
and automotive summer camps

Students interested in automotive technology or culinary arts are invited to sign up for week-long summer camps hosted by the BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education Center at 3589 Big Ridge Road in Spencerport.

Culinary Camp I will run from July 9 through 13 for current seventh and eighth grade students and Culinary Camp II will run from July 16 through 20 for students in ninth and tenth grades and those who have previously attended Culinary Camp I. The cost is $85, register by May 31. Camp is held from 8 a.m. until noon.

Under the tutelage of Career and Technical Education teacher and Chef Kevin Bedard, students will experience a variety of hands-on activities. Campers in Culinary Camp I will learn about sautéing, grilling, frying, fruit carving, fresh pastas, sandwiches, breads and baking. Culinary Camp II campers will learn about baking, cake decorating, making soups, sauces and meat, poultry and seafood entrees. The students will work side-by-side with visiting chefs from area restaurants. A visit to a local culinary facility is planned.

Automotive Camp will run from July 23 through 27 from 8 a.m. to noon for current eighth and ninth graders. Campers will use AutoLAB Multimedia Computer Aided Instruction to learn about automotive repair and maintenance. Hands-on activities will help campers experience career opportunities in the automotive service industry. A few of the hands-on lessons include steering and suspension systems, brakes, diagnostics and service planning and automotive electricity. The camp instructor is a BOCES 2 Automotive Technology teacher who is an ASE and certified master technician.
