Maxon earns Chancellor's,
Lian coach of the year
Kendall graduate and SUNY Brockport sophomore Rachel Maxon was awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award and women's lacrosse coach Traci Lian was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year. Both were among more than a dozen Golden Eagles earning awards in various sports as the spring season came to a close.
Maxon led the Golden Eagles softball team in almost all offensive categories with a .369 batting average, 38 runs, 45 hits and 9 home runs. The Criminal Justice major has a 3.63 grade point average and was named to the SUNYAC All-Conference Team.
Lian, in her fourth season as head coach, led the women's lacrosse team to a school record 13 victories and a berth in the ECAC Championship game.
Brockport also swept the lacrosse Rookie of the Year awards with Lexie Goodhart and David Shields winning the women's and men's honors respectively. Along the Goodhart, Carrie Kane and Ashley Taylor were named to the All-SUNYAC First team for the women and Shields for the men. One player from each squad was named to the Second Team.
In baseball, Churchville-Chili native Jake Dennstedt was voted the All-SUNYAC First Team along with teammate Anthony Shallo. Dennstedt finished his career with 10 wins including a team-high six this season. He was named national Pitcher of the Week twice this season. Four other teammates earned Second Team honors.
Gymnast Nicole Fisher was the other Brockport athlete to be honored with a Chancellor's Award. The junior Physical Education major has a 3.49 grade point average and earned All-American status with an eighth place finish in the floor exercise at the National Championships in March.
