Brockport resident, Joseph Butler, has been named to the dean's list at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Florida Campus, in Port Orange, Florida.

To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 in all studies for the respective term. The highest possible GPA is 4.00.

Butler, son of William and Mary Butler of Brockport, graduated from Brockport High School in 1998. He graduated from Genesee Community College with an associate of science degree and from the University at Buffalo, a state university of New York, with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science.


Nicholas Earnhart graduated from Purdue University on May 12 with a BS in mechanical engineering. He graduated with a GPA of 3.75 and serves an internship this summer with Rolls Royce in Indianapolis working on jet engine controls. In August he begins a direct doctoral fellowship at Georgia Tech in mechanical engineering to study and research control systems. Earnhart, a 2000 graduate of Hilton High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Earnhart of Hilton.


Christopher Beres, son of John and Georgeann Beres of Hamlin, has been named to the 2007 spring semester dean's list at the University of Buffalo. He achieved a 3.835 GPA in environmental and civil engineering. Beres is a member of the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering National Honor Society and is interning this summer with Watts Architectural and Engineering Firm in Buffalo.

Beres is a 2004 graduate of Kendall High School and is majoring in environmental and civil engineering at UB.


Christopher Wilson Muhleisen of Brockport made the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester at High Point University. Dean's list students are those who have attained a 3.5 GPA for the previous semester based on a 4.0 scale.

He is the son of Sue and Gary Muhleisen of Clarkson.


Local students were named by Alfred State College to the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester.

Students from both the Alfred campus and the School of Applied Technology campus in Wellsville are selected for the dean's list if they maintain a 3.50 GPA out of a possible 4.0. They are: Nick Hardie of Brockport; Cody Rath of Hamlin, who had a 4.0 GPA; Jamie Bucci and Gary Ladd, both of Hilton and SangHoon Cho of North Chili


The YMCA recognized volunteers from the Rochester area at its annual meeting on May 23. Adult and Youth Volunteers of the Year from each of the YMCA of Greater Rochester's 14 branches will be honored.

This year's outstanding volunteers included Amanda Brower and Arthur Case. Brower volunteers in the Aquatics Department at the Westside YMCA as a swim lesson aide, and works with staff to ensure a safe environment and quality programming. Outside the YMCA, Brower is involved in the New Visions and Criminal Justice Programs at Spencerport High School and volunteers with the Rochester Police Department.

Case volunteers in the back office at the Westside YMCA. He always makes it a priority to come in and help out, and is a dedicated and hardworking volunteer. Outside of the YMCA, he volunteers at Gates Presbyterian Church and enjoys golfing and wood carving.


Marsh Inc., a risk and insurance services firm, appointed Gavin W. Pratt as vice president in the firm's Buffalo office.

Pratt is responsible for spend analytics within the Global Sourcing and Procurement sector of Marsh & McClennan Companies (MMC). Prior to becoming vice president, Pratt served as assistant vice president working in global client development in New York City.

He holds a bachelor's degree in management science from SUNY Geneseo, and a master's degree in business administration from Rochester Institute of Technology.

A native of Spencerport, Pratt currently resides in North Tonawanda.


The Norman Howard School, an independent day school for students with learning disabilities, awarded Thomas Mussler, a 12th grader and resident of Hilton, with the Joseph Scaletta Memorial Award. He received the award Wednesday night at the school's 6th annual Celebration of Success event.

Mussler received the Joseph Scaletta Memorial Award for his interest in the technology field. He enjoys the challenge of math and the interest of science.


Sara R. Tully, of Rochester, was inducted into Who's Who at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held recently at St. Lawrence University, in Canton, New York.

Tully is a junior at St. Lawrence. She graduated from Spencerport High School in Spencerport and is majoring in psychology. Psi Chi (Psychology) was among the activities that she participated in on campus.


Kelly Lynn Nowakowski, formerly of Hilton, graduated May 19 from State University of New York at Albany with a master's degree in business administration with marketing elective track.

The NYS Capital Region American Marketing Association awarded her a $2,500 scholarship and also named her their "2007 Student Marketer of the Year." She obtained her bachelor of science in marketing from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2002.

She is the marketing analyst and website coordinator for the Pioneer Bank of Albany and resides in Schenectady


Timothy A. Lippa, a 1996 graduate of Churchville-Chili, graduated from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University with a masters in business in May. He is the son of Barbara and Gregory Humbert


Catholic Daughters Court #931 Nativity, Brockport announced its Essay Contest winners: In Division I, 4th and 5th grades: First place, Hannah Schneible, second place, Alyxandrea Hullfish, third place, Delaney Jane O'Connor. Division II, 6th, 7th and 8th grades: First place Cara Scheer, second place, Hannah Visca, third place, Kimberly Reinagel. Division III, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades: First place, Patrick Decker, second place, Eric Ritchie, third place, David Johnson.

Both Hannah Schneible and Patrick Decker received third place in the New York State competition.


Jolene L. Guth, a resident of Rochester, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester at Alfred University. She is a sophomore in the School of Art and Design. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

A graduate of Holley High School, Guth is the daughter of Judy Guth of Rochester and Joseph Guth of Holley.


Todd R. Ford, a resident of Brockport, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester at Alfred University. He is a senior in the college of business. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

Ford is a marketing major at Alfred University and a graduate of Brockport High School.


Graduates from Clarkson University, in May, from this area are: Bryan S. Beckingham, bachelor of science with great distinction, chemical engineering, mathematics minor, physics minor from Holley and Bradley F. Povelaites, bachelor of science, mechanical engineering from Rochester.


Danielle Powers of Spencerport graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a bachelor of science education degree in childhood education.


Kimberly Golis of Churchville graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in new media design and imaging. Golis studied in RIT's School of Design, College of Imaging Arts and Sciences. She is the daughter of Janell and James Golis of Churchville and a 2003 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
