Holley High School holds job interview day
Holley seniors will be entering the job market and facing college more prepared because of a new career preparation activities that took place this spring. The series began with a visit from Bryant and Stratton representatives who talked with students in their English classes about how to create a resume. School Counselors Alison Albright and Andy Ruff, along with School Social Worker Samantha Zelent, worked with seniors on writing their resumes in the computer labs.
Retired High School Principal Paul Hendel lent his expertise to students when he spoke to them about job interview skills. "Getting a job is a job," he began. Then he reviewed with classes the purpose of the interview and how to prepare.
Students completed a checklist of possible professions they would be interested in following high school. Counseling staff worked to match them with community members who represented their field of interest. "The interview portion was voluntary for students, so those who participated should really be praised. They worked hard to gain this valuable experience," said Zelent. A total of 60 seniors participated in interviews with 14 community volunteers.
Senior Mickey O'Keefe, who wants to pursue a culinary arts career, interviewed with Kevin Bedard, a culinary arts teacher at the BOCES 2 Center and Technical Education Center in Spencerport. "We talked about the choices I need to make to pursue a career in this field and how I can further my education to get there," said O'Keefe.
