Newsmakers for the week of
June 10, 2007


Heather Smith of Churchville graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology on May 25 with a multidisciplinary bachelor of science degree in business management and computer graphics plus a minor in sociology/anthropology. She also completed a graphics certificate at Rochester Institute of Technology and is the daughter of Deb and Stan Smith.


Nadine Beres, daughter of John and Georgeann Beres of Hamlin, achieved a 4.0 GPA for the 2007 spring trimester and has been named to the dean's list with honors at Mercyhurst College, Erie, Pennsylvania. She is a member of the honors program, a member of the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society and a Mercyhurst Ambassador.

Beres is a 2006 graduate of Kendall High School majoring in elementary and special education with minor in art therapy.


Cherisse Rehman graduated from Nazareth College of Rochester, May 17. She received a master of science in education attaining a cumulative average of 3.95. She teaches first grade at Fairbanks Road School and is the daughter of Vern and Pat Rehman of Ogden.


Jennifer Emily Habgood of Hamlin was named to the dean's list at the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Morrisville State College. The dean's list distinction is given to those students whose grade point average is 3.0 or higher and have completed a minimum of 12 hours of course work graded A through F for the semester. She is the daughter of Ted and Kathy Habgood.

Christine M. Jackson graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a bachelor's degree in elementary/special education. She is the daughter of Jeff and Barb Jackson of Spencerport and a 2003 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Lisa Robinson of Churchville has achieved the president's list with a GPA of 4.0 at SUNY College at Brockport for the fall of 2006. She is a 2007 graduate of SUNY Brockport with a bachelor of science in English. She is the daughter of Bob and Barb Robinson of Churchville.


Heather Berry, daughter of Marc and Nancy Berry of Ogden, received her MS degree in speech and language pathology from Nazareth College in May. She also earned a LEND Fellowship in Developmental Disabilities at the University of Rochester Strong Center. A 1999 graduate of E.J. Wilson High School and Allegheny College in 2003, she has accepted a position with CARD, the Center for Autism and Related Disorders.


Benjamin Royce Jaekle of Brockport graduated cum laude from the State University of New York at Brockport with a bachelor of science degree in English.

He majored in creative writing with a minor in theatre.

During his college career, he became a member of the international English honors society Sigma Tau Delta. He appeared in the Harlequins Performing Arts Club's "Haunted Lives," "The Festival of Ten," "Martha's Choice" and "Do I Look Like Your Wife?"

His short story and poetry appeared in Jigsaw, the student literary publication.

A 2003 graduate of Brockport High School, he is the son of Mark and Megan Jaekle of Brockport.


Students at SUNY Canton were recognized for outstanding academic performance during the spring 2007 semester. They are: Robin Westcott, president's list and Braddley Fox, dean's list. They are both from the Brockport area.

To receive president's list honors, full-time students must earn a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. For dean's list, students must receive a GPA of 3.25.


Allison Olney graduated from Grover City College on May 19 with a bachelor of science degree in business management. A 2003 graduate of Spencerport High School, she is the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Olney of Spencerport.
