LMH Twig Association awards scholarships
At a presentation ceremony on June 2, the Lakeside Memorial Hospital Twig Association awarded its annual scholarships to five students. These $1,000 scholarships are presented to students who are working toward a degree in the health care field.
This year's recipients are: Naomi Hickey of Bergen, who will be attending Finger Lakes Community College in the pre-nursing program; Heather Meisch of Holley, enrolled in the nursing program at Genesee Community College and an employee at Lakeside Child Care; Marlene Ogene of Rochester, attending SUNY at Brockport nursing program and an employee at Lakeside Memorial Hospital; Stephanie Reisman of Spencerport, who will attend St. John Fisher's nursing program; and Shaun Roberts of Brockport who will study physical therapy at Roberts Wesleyan College. The alternates are: Deanna Johnson of North Chili, attending the LPN Program at BOCES and Mekal Ogbeab of Rochester studying biology/pre-med at SUNY at Geneseo.
"We are pleased with the caliber and number of scholarship applicants this year. Our five winners are perfect candidates that are hard-working and devoted in continuing their education in the health care field while also involved in their communities," stated Evelyn Krekic, president of the LMH Twig Association. Lakeside congratulates all the scholarship recipients.
The Twig Association also selects one individual to receive the Dr. Dorothy Foster Honorary Nursing Award. Foster was a long-time resident of the Village of Brockport and an educator at SUNY Brockport. She left funds to the Twig Association Scholarship Fund to honor or financially assist a nurse to further his/her education. This year's recipient is Barbara Klinkbeil, RN, clinical nurse leader at the Lakeside Family Birthing Center. "Barb was nominated by her supervisor for her exemplary performance and commitment to quality, compassionate care for her patients," Krekic said.
