Two Spencerport Ambulance personnel charged by OPD
Anytime the police are involved in a situation like this, its disappointing, Ogden Police Chief Nordquist said at a press conference on June 13. The situation is one in which the department has charged Jeff Tewksbury, director of operations for the Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Tewksbury, 48, was charged with rape and criminal sexual acts in the third degree. He was arrested on June 12 and released on an appearance ticket. He resigned from the ambulance last week.
A young lady (16-years-old) came to the Ogden Police Department last week and said she had several sexual contacts during the past several months with the suspect, Nordquist said. The victim is a member of the Ambulance Explorer Unit.
Jeff Krywy, deputy chief of the ambulance group, said the Explorer program in Ogden has been suspended pending investigation. The Spencerport Ambulance is a small, community organization and naturally everyone is very upset when an incident like this comes to light, he said. Counseling services are available to members of the Explorer Post, he said.
On June 13, Tewksbury appeared in Ogden Town Court and pleaded not guilty to third degree rape and third degree criminal sexual acts. He is free on a $5,000 appearance bond.
At a press conference June 14, Ogden Police Chief Doug Nordquist announced a second arrest. Richard Mogab, 30, was charged with third degree rape involving sexual misconduct with a minor based on allegations made by the same victim.
Mogab resigned from the ambulance corps on June 14. He held the job of operations supervisor.
OPD Chief Nordquist said he expected no further arrests in the case.
