Empire Girls State is a week long think camp where 360 young women from all over New York state form the 51st mythical state on government. They form two political parties and are divided into 11 counties named for famous women. While there they debate, campaign, write bills and participate in flag raising ceremony. They also learn about the Auxiliary Poppy Program and how it helps veterans. At week's end they elect city and town officials and a governor and lieutenant governor.
