Military Pride is alive at Canal View School
"For generations our country has faced difficult challenges both at home and around the world. Servicemen and women of all eras have made and continue to make extraordinary sacrifices so that we can enjoy the freedoms and liberties we as Americans cherish," Shelly Remillard of the Spencerport School district wrote in a press release. "These men and women are our family members, our friends, our neighbors and our heroes. We speak of them daily with pride. Their sacrifice and dedication is truly appreciated in the heart of a grateful school body."
On June 14, the Service Learning Club at Canal View Elementary School paid tribute to local heroes and their families. After the Flag Day ceremony, a "Hall of Honor" was dedicated to all military men and women. More than 50 names were submitted to the military pride initiative and are posted with honor and memory in the main hall of Canal View. The "Hall of Honor" will remain until early August.
Michael Laing and Tyler Andrews, both Service Learning Members, said they were proud to be a part of "something so special." "It's important for us to honor and salute the men and women that fight for us each day," they said.
Military Pride is an on going project, with the next event anticipated in November. For information about Military Pride, e-mail Remillard at sremillard@spencerportschools.org or militarypride@spencerportschools.org.
