Brockport third grader wins fire truck ride

In the second annual coloring contest sponsored by FUSE, Mackenzie Northrup received her first place ribbon from Assistant Chief Michael J. Henry of the Brockport Fire Department and Past Chief Charlie Hungerford, Walker Fire Department, who represented Firefighters United for Safety Education (FUSE) after giving her a ride to school on a fire truck. The Brockport fire engine pulled up at her house and the whole family was in the driveway waiting to see Mackenzie being lifted into the passenger seat by her dad. The Brockport firefighters on the apparatus weren't sure who was more excited; Mackenzie or her brother, Liam. Mackenzie's parents were there with Liam and her sister, Kennedy, as she was greeted by Assistant Chief Mike Henry and his group of firefighters. Dad helped her into the front seat and off they went to the Barclay School, where her third grade friends were in the parking lot looking for her and her fire truck. The truck arrived early, so Mackenzie was given a tour of the fire department training facility on her way to school.

Mackenzie was one of the first place prize winners in the coloring contest sponsored by FUSE, a group of firefighters from Brockport, Hamlin, Walker, Morton, Kendall and Clarendon. Mackenzie was selected from over 200 entries by seniors at the Sweden Senior Center who acted as the judges. The theme of the contest this year was EDITH - Exit Drills In The Home.
