Spencerport fire department receives thermal imaging camera

The Spencerport Fire District has received a vital piece of life saving equipment, a thermal imaging camera.

Assemblyman William Reilich secured $5,410 of the $12,135 cost of this new life-saving device that can find people trapped in smoke filled structures or in situations where there is low visibility. This high-tech thermal imaging camera uses infrared technology to sense heat differences and displays it on a screen that firefighters can view while searching for victims. The remainder of the cost of the camera was provided through a donation from the Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Association. The Firemen's Association provided funding for this device through their annual carnival and fund drive.

Reilich was honored for the grant by serving as Grand Marshal of the 2007 Spencerport Volunteer Firemen's Parade that was held on June 14.
