Students publish wildlife book

Fourth grade students at Byron-Bergen Elementary School wrote and illustrated their own non-fiction book featuring local wildlife. This project, created by art teacher Melissa Coniglio, was supported in part by a grant from the Genesee Region Teacher Center. It allowed students to research, write and draw local wildlife. They worked with visiting artist Alan Singer to publish the non-fiction book that represents wildlife within local habitats. Students visited the Bergen Swamp to view actual wildlife, conducted research in the library and on the internet, and worked with high school graphic arts students to create the book. Copies may be purchased on line and are available in the school library.

"I have really enjoyed facilitating the process of creating this book. The students really demonstrated their willingness to give their best efforts when they were working on it. I am very proud of their accomplishments and hope they will retain an interest and curiosity about the natural world around them," Coniglio stated in a press release.
