Daniel Osipovitch, of Bergen, was named to the dean's list at the University of New Haven for the spring 2007 semester. Full-time undergraduate students must have a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA for the semester to be eligible for the dean's list.


The following students are on the dean's list for academic achievement for the fall 2006 semester from School of Management at Binghamton University, State University of New York: Grace Cuthbert, Churchville and Alison Kincaid, Spencerport.


Caitlin M. Simpson, Spencerport, has achieved the dean's list with a GPA of 3.40-3.69 at SUNY College at Brockport for spring 2007. She is a 2003 graduate of Spencerport High School and is the daughter of Jane W. Simpson, Spencerport and Gary Simpson, Huntersville, North Carolina.


Amanda Hertzlin, Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fourth-year student in RIT's College of Science, Hertzlin is studying environmental science. Hertzlin, daughter of Connie and Peter Hertzlin of Hilton, is a 2003 graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Miriam Newman graduated with honors from Swarthmore College in June. She majored in English with minors in religion and medieval studies and plans a career in publishing in New York City. A 2004 graduate of Brockport High School, she is the daughter of David Newman and Annie Crane.


SUNY Oswego has awarded two $17,600 Presidential Scholarships to two local students, Matthew P. Vail of Churchville and David V. Buechel of Hilton.


SUNY Oswego awarded Tara L. Myers of Spencerport a $5,000 Dean's Award. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success. Myers has reserved a place in the incoming freshman class for the fall semester. Classes will begin August 30.


Melinda M. Rossi of North Chili has graduated from Stonehill College, Easton, Massachusetts magna cum laude, with a bachelor's degree.


Major George Quamo, who died April 14, 1968 in the Vietnam Conflict, was honored nearly 40 years after his death with the naming of a post office in his honor. Ceremonies were held in Averill Park, NY on April 14, 2007 at the school which the Major attended.

The Major George Quamo Post Office is located in the town of Sand Lake where the Quamo family lived before moving to Spencerport.

Family members, friends, classmates and Special Forces members who served with the Major came from as far away as Florida and California to attend. The Major's Commanding Officer, Retired Colonel David Smith, came to pay tribute to the soldier.

Major Quamo was the brother of Niki Quamo Steitz of Venice, Florida; Muretta Quamo Bauer of the Spencerport area; the late Tefta Quamo Moses of Chappaqua, NY; the late Yllika Quamo Runkle of LaCanada, California and the son of the late Alexander Quamo and the late Kaliroi Quamo of the Spencerport area.

Major Quamo was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit Award, the Presidential Unit Citation and several other recognitions.


Cayce L. Burritt of Hilton has achieved the dean's list with honors with a GPA of 3.70-3.99 at SUNY College at Brockport for spring 2007. She is a 2005 home school graduate and the daughter of Craig and Colleen Burritt.


Sara L. Cody, daughter of William and Debra Cody of Brockport, graduated from the Greater Rochester Collaborative Masters of Social Work Program, awarded with a master's degree in social work. She received her bachelor of science degree in social work from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, New York. She is working toward her licensure to practice social work in New York state as a licensed certified social worker. She lives outside of Saratoga Springs, New York.


Rochester resident Mark Giannone was one of 700 students to graduate from Messiah College on May 19 during the college's 98th annual commencement. Giannone graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration.


The following local students were named to the dean's list for the 2007 spring semester at Messiah College. Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale. They are Churchville resident Kirstyn Adams; North Chili resident Brett Faro; Rochester residents Rebecca Hyland, Naomi Smith and Rebecca Hyland.


Katherine Porter of Brockport was named to the dean's honors list for the fall semester at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire. Porter, majoring in English, earned dean's list standing by maintaining a term grade point average of at least 3.65 on a scale of four.


Springfield College has named the following local residents to the dean's list for the spring 2007 term: Christopher Shekel of Rochester and Brandon Waas of Spencerport


Christopher Burke, son of Michael and Carol Burke of Parma, graduated May 2007 with honors from SUNY at Cobleskill with an AAS degree in diesel technology. He will return to SUNY at Cobleskill for his bachelor's degree in agricultural equipment technology in the fall. He was also the recipient of the Schopinsky Family Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a student who competed in track and field and maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.


Andrew Montanaro of Rochester has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. He graduated with high honors on May 25 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. He is the son of Nick and Romea Montanaro.


Christopher Montanaro of Rochester has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A first-year student in RIT's College of Science, he is in the physician assistant program. He is the son of Nick and Romea Montanaro.


Art and Sandy Peragine are the Top Sales Agents for June at Prudential Discover Real Estate. They reside in Kendall.


Lisa West is the Top Listing Agent for June at Prudential Discover Real Estate.

West is also a volunteer with Gates Ambulance.


PFC. Lucas C. Burritt graduated May 18, from the Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina. He is a 2006 home school graduate and the son of Craig and Colleen Burritt of Hilton.

This summer, PFC. Burritt will continue his training at the Marine Corps School of Infantry at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. At the completion of his training he will be assigned to Alpha Company, Anti-Terrorist Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine and Naval Reserve Center here in Rochester and continue his education at Monroe Community College.
