"Scissors" take the win in Summer Celebration event
Food, fun, and fireworks were a few of the highlights from the Town of Parma's Summer Celebration held on August 3 and 4. This year's celebration included a variety of food booths, carnival-style games, live entertainment from two local bands, a 70 foot children's obstacle course and a cruise-in auto show. New this year was the outdoor movie theater, the mechanical bull ride, "Rodeo Roper" game and the first ever Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship.
The participants who took part in the Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament, were the 200 youth enrolled in Hilton-Parma Recreation's Summer Playground Program. The rules were to play the "best out of three" in order to advance to the next round. Both Junior and Senior Playground began with 100 participants each, which was then narrowed down to 50, then to 26 and finally down to eight finalists who competed in the Championship. Each of the four semi-final rounds then produced four finalists that went head-to-head to the end.
In the exciting conclusion, Troy Gill played "scissors" to beat out Madison Thesing's "paper" to prevail as the winner and claim the title of Rock, Paper, Scissors Champion.
