•Fletcher, Rev. Layman E., age 91, died August 21, 2007 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruby Hardy Fletcher; son, Donald Fletcher and wife, Lorraine, of Franklin, Tennessee, formerly of Churchville; three daughters, Donna Gilbert and husband, Terrance, of Terrell, North Carolina, formerly of Spencerport, Sylvia Knight and husband, James, of Harrisburg, North Carolina and Shirley Horwath and husband, Fred, of Del Ray Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Todd and wife, Stefanie, Kristen, Jim and wife, Katrina, Kevin, Jackie, Jacob and wife, Beth, Jill and husband, Will, and Scott and wife, Kim; 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters. Rev. Layman was a Free Methodist minister who served communities in parts of Canada and New York state for 46 years.

Funeral Services were held August 24 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, North Carolina. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Contributions can be made to Brockport Free Methodist Church, 6787 Fourth Section Road, Brockport 14420 in his memory.


BERGEN

•Schafer, Donald J., On August 17, 2007, age 83. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; children Michael (Tracey), Mark and Connie (David) Laliberte; three grandchildren, David and Jennifer Schafer, Sam Laliberte; sister Dorothy Wendelgass. Mr. Schafer was a veteran of the Pacific Theater of WWII in the United States Marine Corps.

A Funeral Mass was said August 21 at Nativity Church BVM, Brockport. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Lakeside Memorial Hospital in his memory.

•Mesiti, Josephine Evelyn, August 19, 2007, at age 88. Predeceased by her husband, Rocco Mesiti Sr. She is survived by her children, Theresa Hampson of Tennessee, Stephen J. (Connie) Mesiti Sr., Rocco (Christine) Mesiti Jr. of Caledonia; grandchildren Bob (Diane) Shelton, Evelyn (Jerry) Rubenstein, Christopher Shelton, Steve (Michelle) Shelton, Dr. Stephen M. Mesiti Jr., Adam C. (Aimee) Mesiti, Aaron (Karyn) Mesiti, Janine (Andrew) Thoresen, Daniel (Marla) Mesiti, Rocco C. (Amy) Mesiti III, Stephanie (fiancé Jamie Ferris) Mesiti, Michael (Kerrianne) Mesiti; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

•Van Alstyne, Victor Jr., formerly of Brockport, died August 9, 2007 in Brooksville, Florida where he had been residing. Born November 5, 1922 to Victor Percival and Lula Bell (Sayers) Van Alstyne, he married Miriam Bertha Oehlbeck in 1947 after serving in the U. S. Navy for four years. Victor was employed at Rochester Products for 29 years. He was a long-time member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rochester. His hobbies were golfing and bowling. Preceded in death by wife Miriam (Oehlbeck). Survived by eight children: Daryl of Hamburg, Eldwin (Roz) Greenwood, Indiana, Farrel of Brooksville, Florida, Carla (John) Narraway of Springville, Boyd of Parker, Colorado, Arlen (Diane) of Parker, Colorado, Gifford (Linda) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Hoyt of Brockport; also survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


•Whitney, Elsie M. (Perry), August 21, 2007. Predeceased by husbands John Whitney and George H. Perry. Devoted mother of George (Diana) Perry, Anita (James) Quackenbush and Beverly (John) Hartung; loving grandmother of Dr. Valery Perry, Michael (Taka) Quackenbush, Lt. George Perry USN, Robert, Stephanie and Jeffrey Hartung and the late Kimberly Quack-enbush; sister of Paul (Alberta) Horn, John (Barbara) Horn, and the late George (Carol) Horn. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Elsie was head cashier at Star Markets for 30 years and a lifetime member of the Brockport Free Methodist Church.

CHURCHVILLE

•Betteridge, Gerald F., age 79, of Little River, South Carolina, formerly of Churchville, died August 8, 2007 at Loris Community Hospital. Born on July 9, 1928 in Churchville, he was the son of the late Edwin and Sarah Cody Betteridge. Gerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Dilcher Betteridge of Little River; one son, Chris E. Betteridge of Jacksonville, Florida; two broth-ers, Richard (Doris) Betteridge of Churchville and Ronald (Janet) Betteridge of Greece; and three grandchildren, Gerald L. (Stacey) Betteridge, Lindsay Betteridge and Logan Betteridge. Gerry was an outstanding athlete. While living in Churchville, he spent several years playing semi-pro baseball. He was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in Rochester in 1985 for his outstanding achievements.

HOLLEY

•D'Andrea, Donald A., Age 79, died August 16, 2007 at Park Ridge Hospital. He is survived by his wife Joann; also by his sons James and David, both of Holley; brother Fred D. (Lois) D'Andrea of Kendall; grandson Nathan and several nieces and nephews. A member of St. Mary R.C. Church in Holley, served in U.S. Army Air Corps, a member of Jewell Buckman Post #529 of the American Legion. He worked for many years as a race track official at both Meadowlands in New Jersey and at Batavia Downs.

A Mass of Christian Burial was said August 20 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Holley. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Lakeside Memorial Hospital or to St. Mary Church in his memory.


•Mignano, Ona A. (Ward), 81 died August 18, 2007 at Batavia Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband James Sr. in 1981. She is survived by a son, James (Debbi) Mignano Jr. of Holley; grandson Andrew J. Mignano of Holley; brother, John (Vivian) Ward of Holley; two sisters, Beulah Ward and Viola DeLaura of Holley; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Kenneth, Elmer, Clifford, Wade Ward and sisters, Isabelle Ward and Nancy Karpenko Saxman. She was a 50 year member of the Fancher-Hulberton-Murray Ladies Auxiliary, Disciples United Methodist Church and The Orleans County Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral Services were held August 23 at the Disciples United Methodist Church. Interment, Hillside Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the church, The American Cancer Society, or The FHM Ladies Auxiliary in her memory.


•Reibson, Marilyn G., August 20, 2007. Survived by family and friends.

•Valentine, Mendore A., Age 93, August 22, 2007. Predeceased by brothers, Mario and Elmer. Survived by wife of 68 years, Lillian; son, Peter (Patricia); daughter, Carolyn (Frank) Licurse; sister, Iola Valentine; grandchildren, Lisa (Rafael) Sanchez, Scott (Jennifer) Valentine, Roger Valentine; great-grandchildren, Tyler Valentine, Gabriela Sanchez, Anthony Sanchez; brother-in-law, Angelo Aleo; sisters-in-law, Betty Valentine, Gail Romagnola; several nieces and nephews.

NORTH CHILI

•Stephens, Marion C., August 19, 2007. Survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Eben; children, Michele (David) Nau, Michael (Gwen) Stephens and Marcia (Steve) Moore; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Dorothy) Claesgens; several nieces and nephews.

Service and Interment were held at the convenience of the family.
