Brockport CSD introduces new safety tipline

The Brockport Central School District has a new 24-hour dedicated safety tipline available for reporting any situation that could jeopardize the safety of the students, staff, or school property, according to district representatives.

The tipline allows students, parents, staff and the community to report incidents or potential incidents including violence, theft, drug or alcohol abuse, talk of suicide, sexual harassment, and weapons by calling 1-877-453-0006. All recorded messages will be documented in the Security Office and followed up by the appropriate staff member.

"This tipline will help us maintain our safe school environment," said Gary Rose, director of security. "While we have many security procedures in place including 24/7 security, hall monitors, cameras and programs to teach students about the dangers of bullying, it is helpful to have this community watch type program."

"To maintain anonymity, callers are not required to give their name or contact information," said Rose. "We do, however, ask that specific details are given so we can conduct a timely investigation. If there is a bullying incident on a school bus for example, we need to know when the incident happened, the bus number and the names or descriptions of those involved in order to resolve the situation."

Information may also be reported online through the district's web site at http://brockport.k12.ny.us/tipline. BCSD piloted a similar program through an outside company last school year. "Bringing this service in-house allows us to check the messages more effectively."

Any security questions or concerns may be directed to the Security Office at 637-1987.
