Clarkson Historical Society News

The 3rd annual Clarkson Academy Reunion was a success. About 50 people gathered in the Clarkson Community Church for refreshments and a social hour prior to a talk by Doris Schmidt who described school days in a one-room school. Following the talk, Don Lage, president of CHS, took attendees to the schoolhouse to show how far the renovations have progressed. There was a science display and old school photos set up on the wall. With the continued help from donations, society members hope to present a fully refurbished first floor at next year's reunion.

The Clarkson Historical Society is starting a fund drive to raise the money to finish the first floor renovations and to complete the second floor. Letters will be sent to the community providing updates. When completed, the Academy will be available as an educational center for meetings and community functions. The Brockport School district uses the school as a field trip for the fourth grade to illustrate life in a by-gone era. The second floor will be used as a museum.

Send contributions to the Clarkson Historical Society, Box 600, Clarkson, NY 14430. For information contact Don Lage at 395-0009 or Doug Cunningham at 637-3853.
