Spencerport board chooses interim superintendent
At its October 9 meeting, the Spencerport Board of Education announced it will hire retired former Superintendent of Schools Phillip W. Langton as interim superintendent on the retirement of Mary Anne Kermis. In September, Kermis informed the board of plans to retire in December. Kermis succeeded Langton when he retired in 2005.
Langton was superintendent in Spencerport from January 2001 to June 2005. He and his wife, Gail, reside in Spencerport.
The hiring of an interim superintendent will allow for a complete search process, provide for the management of the day-to-day operations of the district and allow the administrators, faculty and staff to concentrate on their primary responsibilities of fulfilling the district's mission for each student, said Board President William Sweeney.
The board met with Dr. Michael O'Laughlin, superintendent of Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES. O'Laughlin will conduct the search for qualified candidates. The board plans to hire a Superintendent to start on or before July 2008. Updates on the search process will be provided on the district website www.SpencerportSchools.org and offered to local media.
Residents are invited to participate in the selection of the next superintendent of Spencerport schools.
