Ogden Police Department purchases new weapons

Ogden Police Sgt. Al Krause holds one of 20 new weapons purchased by the department using $12,000 in grant funding. The .45 caliber Smith & Wessons replace 17-year old guns of the same make and size and are manufactured for police and military use. According to Krause, the department tested several different weapons and found the one purchased superior for their use based on accuracy and because of the stainless metal construction which is very hard yet lightweight. In the dark, the Trijcon night sight uses one green light at the front of the piece and two lights at the back of the gun which puts the weapon on sight. At a gathering October 18 at police headquarters, OPD Chief Doug Nordquist thanked Assemblymember Bill Reilich for helping secure the funding for the grant and gun purchase. “Assemblymember Reilich has been a great supporter and friend to the Ogden Police Department. The latest example is his procurement of a grant that allowed us to replace our existing duty weapon. The department purchased new pistols for every sworn officer along with holsters and leather gear. The grant made it possible for us to buy these weapons without directly impacting the local taxpayer through their town taxes.” Photographs by Walter Horylev for Westside News Inc.
