Gilmore within one of record
SUNY Brockport senior outside hitter Shae Gilmore registered a team-high 17 kills in a four-game women's volleyball loss to RIT. The offensive output brought her to within one of the all time school record for career kills.
The Golden Eagles struggled defensively in the first game and were never really in it in a 30-12 loss.
RIT made it 2-0 with a 30-21 victory in the second game. The Tigers outscored Brockport 10-5 after Bethany Ortman's kill brought the home team to within four points.
Going for the sweep, the Tigers led by as many as seven points in game three before Brockport showed a spark offensively. Gilmore had three kills over a five point span to tie the game 17-17. RIT then retook a four point lead before Brockport freshman Tracy Henry had a kill, Ortman a block and another Gilmore kill tied the game 25-25. Kristi Schrantz had a block, Bethany Schlegel an ace and Gilmore a kill over the final stages as the Golden Eagles won 30-26.
RIT found their offense again to take game four 30-20, outscoring Brockport 10-5 down the stretch to finish the match.
