Holley sets meetings on school's capital project
Holley school district officials have prepared their plans, had them approved by the board and are now taking the message to the community about two proposals that will be put forth on December 10 for a capital school project.
The district had put together a committee to explore the options for the district once EXCEL aid became available from the state education department. The district is eligible for at least $412,000 in aid. "The aid can be used for building renovations," School Superintendent Robert D'Angelo said previously.
The district will put forth two proposals to the voters - one for a phase one project of $4.1 million, the other to build a capital reserve fund of $2 million to defray the cost of phase two of the capital project which is estimated at $20 million. 'The $4.1 million part of the project will have no effect on the taxes," Gene Mahaney, which district's business administrator said. "We will be putting EXCEL aid toward that project. The building of a capital reserve fund will help the district set aside money toward phase two of the project."
Mahaney said phase two would likely increasing taxpayers' bills by about 86 percent per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
"Under the proposals, we are looking to replace the windows in the middle school, install insulation and a solid wall construction rather than the partition-type walls we have now," he said.
