Hawks in third straight final
Colton Orbaker scored in the first half; then Brandon McMillion and Joel Garcia-Barczak added tallies in the second half as Holley advanced to the Class B boy's soccer championship game with a 3-0 win over Byron-Bergen.
The Hawks first goal came in the final minute of the first half when Taylor Page took a corner kick. In the box, Barczak had his shot deflected away by a defender standing on the near post before Orbaker knocked home the rebound.
In the second half, Byron-Bergen had three scoring chances over the first 12 minutes before Page set up the second Holley goal. In the 65th minute, McMillion converted his team-leading 19th goal of the season on a one-timer from Page's corner kick for a 2-0 lead.
The Bees rallied in the final 15 minutes with Dakota Longhini and Donald Maskell stopped one minute apart; the second on a diving save by Holley goalkeeper Dave Young.
The Hawks made the lead 3-0 when John Wharram chipped a ball into the box where Barczak scored in the 85th minute.
"We need to calm down this rivalry a bit and the neutral field helped us," said Holley head coach Dan Orbaker of the game held at Dan Walrath Memorial Field in Brockport. "They have a great squad and it was hard to get in the flow, plus we are so familiar with each other. We kept our poise, kept our heads and played good soccer in the second half."
Young made eight saves in registering his seventh shutout of the season.
Earlier this season the two teams played to ties on two occasions. Holley, who defeated Perry to win the championship one year ago, advanced to play Wellsville in the Class B final.
