Golden Apple award presented

Kevin Doran, from WROC-TV 8 in Rochester, surprised Byron-Bergen Middle School special education teacher Heather Young on October 29 with the Golden Apple Award (formerly called Teacher of the Month). The award is given to local teachers that are nominated by their students, peers, family members, community members or supervisors.

Young was nominated by her husband and daughter, Chris and Brianna, for the extra hours she puts in at home to prepare for her lessons. Young's accomplishments in utilizing new technology in the classroom, e.g., iPods and SMART Boards™, have made her a pioneer in the district. As a result, her students have won awards at technology fairs for their podcasts.
