Honor Roll update in the Town of Clarkson
On September 11, the Town of Clarkson approved a proposal from Jackie Smith to update the Veteran's Honor Roll sign, located outside the Clarkson Town Hall. Since working on the Sweden Clarkson Community Center's Wall of Honor - a tribute to the active military personnel serving in the war in Iraq - Smith found that there were many other veterans to honor. She has started collecting names of veterans who lived in Clarkson while serving in any war and will add them to the current Honor Roll, a listing of veterans who have served in past wars.
The Honor Roll was last updated in 1983 by Hazel Kleinbach to include service men and women from Clarkson. Al Fahmer refurbished the entire sign at that point in time.
Clarkson Historian Leanna Hale is researching names in her files and working with Smith on this project. Hale would like to see the Honor Roll updated from the Civil Water to the present war, and is asking Clarkson residents to help in this endeavor by sending any names of family members or neighbors who are or were Clarkson residents who served in war times. Specify which war, and, if known: branch of service, dates of service, and if they were killed in action. All information may be sent to Leanna Hale, Town of Clarkson, P.O. Box 858, Clarkson, NY 14430.
The sign will be re-dedicated on Memorial Day 2008.
