instructor receives Russia's highest honor

Jane Shuffelton, Russian language instructor at the College at Brockport, was presented the distinguished Pushkin Medal, the highest award bestowed by Russia upon an individual who is not a Russian citizen, during a ceremony at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Washington, DC.

The award was presented by Ludmila Verbitskaya, president of MAPRIAL, the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature. She received it for service in promoting the Russian language and was presented at the International forum on Current Issues in the Study and Teaching of Russian Language and Culture: Research, Theories, and Best Practices, sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the Russian Cultural Center at the Embassy of the Russian Federation, Washington, DC, and the Russian Friendship University.

Shuffelton holds a BA from Radcliffe College and an MAT from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Before joining the faculty of the College at Brockport, she taught French, Russian and Spanish at Brighton High School, Brighton.
