Barnard Fire District adds new life-saving device

Barnard Fire District recently added a new life-saving device to each of its trucks. Lifepak® 35 is a state-of-the-art heart monitor/defibrillator. The device features a large, easy-to-use touchscreen and advanced clinical decision support tools. In addition to serving as a defibrillator and pacemaker, it keeps timing to improve CPR by reducing pauses. It allows first responders to screenshare a patient’s vitals with remote clinicians, allowing for faster treatment decisions. The device can also be used to control the LUCAS automated chest compression device which makes it safer for paramedics when moving patients.
Barnard is one of the first departments in Monroe County to offer the cutting-edge technology to help paramedics save lives. The installation was made possible with community support and the allocation of $165,000 for new technology.
