AREA: Bloomer, Shirley H., of Rochester, died June 7, 2026, at age 88. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, David, and her grandson, Arnold (AJ) Barbaro. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Taber; children, Michael (Darlene) Bloomer, Laurie (Arnold) Barbaro, Edward (Marisa Ceolin) Bloomer, Timothy (Debra) Bloomer, and Barbara (Michael) Hethcoat; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

AREA: Closs, The Rev. Robert E., of Rochester, formerly of Binghamton, died June 2, 2026, at age 106. Robert was born February 26, 1920, to Beatrice (Wormuth) Closs and Howard Egbert Closs. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Anita; sister, Dorothy Coleman; and brother William R. Closs. He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Michael) Price and Janet (Donald) Snyder; granddaughters, Dr. Rebecca (Christopher Fuller) Smith and Amy (Jason) Oehlbeck; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and their children; and close companion, Beverley Hartman. Robert, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, was employed by GAF Corporation and IBM in the Binghamton area. He was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church in 1968 and served as pastor at several churches in the Binghamton area. Robert moved to Rochester in 2015 and resided at Seabury Woods Assisted Living Center. He continued his ministry there by offering a weekly service to the residents for several years. Robert was a ham radio operator from the time he was a teenager. He spent countless hours communicating with people around the world. He still held his license when he passed away.
A Memorial Service will be held June 16 at 1 p.m. at the North Chili United Methodist Church, 2200 Westside Drive, Rochester. He will be interred along with his wife, Anita, in the Vestal Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. BROCKPORT: Gardner, Elizabeth A., age 100, died June 6, 2026. She was born on September 27, 1925, in Rochester, to the late Vincent and Ottilia (Nau) Fischer. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Gardner; daughters, Doris Albanese and Kathleen Akey; brother, Vincent Fischer; and sister, Rose Clays. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Samuel (April) Gardner; grandchildren, Charmaine (Dominic) Gregori, Yvette (Bernell) Moyer, Jakob Gardner, and Matthew Gardner; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She worked at SUNY Brockport as a cleaning lady in the dorms, where she loved engaging with the students. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting and crocheting. She was proud to be a part of the Schuhplattler Verein Heidengold German Club and was awarded a lifetime membership.

Olivet Cemetery and reception at the Parish Center at the church.

CHILI: Schreiber, James L., age 80, died February 9, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Wendy Schreiber; children, Adam (Heather) Schreiber, Jay (Megan) Schreiber, and Meredith (Michael) Skyer; grandchildren, Olivia, Diego, Henry, Edith, Winston, and a sixth grandchild soon to arrive; brother, Scott Schreiber, and sister-in-law, Susan Schreiber. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Les and Mary Schreiber, and his brother, Bruce. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving both at home and abroad from 1963 to 1966. After the honorable completion of his service, he began his career with Rochester Gas and Electric. Jim devoted 35 years to the local utility, retiring in 2002 at age 57. Retirement expanded Jim’s already generous spirit. He volunteered his time with Junior Achievement, working with school children in local public schools; served as a docent at the Genesee Country Village & Museum; and visited sick children in area hospitals. He loved to travel, attending state fairs across the country.

CHURCHVILLE: Suter, Donald George “Don,” died June 3, 2026, at age 95. He was predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Eleanor; parents, Edward and Helen Suter; brothers, Edward J. and Baby Suter. He is survived by his children, Jim (Peggy) Suter, Kathy (Tom) Stephany, Nancy (Pete) Zambuto, and John (the late Frances) Suter; grandchildren, Jamie (Hartley) Suter, Melissa (Chris) Amico, Peter Zambuto (the late Katie), David (Emily) Zambuto, Michelle Mika; nine great-grandchildren; and many close friends. Don worked for Specialized Printed Forms for 30 years and retired as an IT Supervisor. He also ran his own printing business, Donel Graphics. His dedication to public service began in his early 20s when he joined the U.S. Army and served as a Military Police Officer in Europe during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, he served his community with National Ambulance and the Churchville Fire Department. He was appointed Trustee of the Village of Churchville and served intermittently until his appointment as Deputy Mayor.

CLARKSON: Sulkowski, Lawrence “Larry,” age 61, died May 31, 2026. Larry was predeceased by his father, Edward Sulkowski, and his former wife, Lucy Sulkowski, the mother of his children. He is survived by his mother, Laura Sulkowski, of Chili; his sister, Laurie (Meaghan McDermott) Sulkowski, of Ogden; brother, Edward Sulkowski, of Chili; sons, Stephen Sulkowski and Andrew (Brittany Fowler) Sulkowski, of North Carolina; daughter, Hannah (Cody) Rudolfs, of Clarkson; grandchildren, Ezreigh, Mason, and Evelynn Rudolfs; dear friends and chosen family, Kim Douglas and Frankie Rodriguez; and many other relatives and lifelong friends. Larry spent his career helping people through life’s transitions, most recently with Chipman Relocation & Logistics. The work suited him. He loved driving, loved being on the road, and loved meeting new people along the way. For many, Larry was the glue that held people together. He was the one who made the call, organized the get-together, or checked in just to see how someone was doing. Larry loved people, and people loved him right back. He was a devoted Yankees fan, a member of the Bills Mafia, and a lifelong WWE enthusiast. Anyone who knew him knows he would want us to keep gathering, keep laughing, and keep telling the stories that begin, “Do you remember when Larry…”

HAMLIN: Belair, Richard J. Jr., “Dick,” died June 3, 2026, at age 72. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard Sr. (Virginia Northrop) Belair; and grandparents, Lawrence (Marie) Northrop. He is survived by his daughters, Cathy Belair and Sarah (Dan) Brundage; four grandchildren, Ben, Hannah, Emily, and Leah Brundage; close friend, Sue St. John; several cousins, extended family, and many dear friends. Dick lived a life rooted in practical skill and genuine kindness. He was a hunter and woodworker who appreciated the satisfaction of working with his hands and creating something lasting. He also enjoyed welding and found great satisfaction in teaching others his craft. He was the kind of man people could count on when a job needed to be done or when a neighbor needed a helping hand.

HILTON: Carter, William A. “Bill,” died June 3, 2026, at the age of 83. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Donna McLaren Carter; children, Stephen (Kimberly) Carter and Kelly (Mike) Clark; grandchildren, Ashlee and Peyton Carter and Carter, Ella, Shane, Marisa, and Bret Clark; sister, Donna Preston; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack McLaren, Karen (Bob) Lanzillo, Bill (Connie) McLaren and Ron (Linda) McLaren; and his nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Jean Carter; brother-in-law, Ken Preston; and sister-in-law, Colleen McLaren. Bill retired from Eastman Kodak Company after more than 35 years. A lifelong public servant, he served the Village of Hilton first as Trustee from 1994 to 1998, and then as Mayor from 1998 to 2006. He had 53 years of service with the Hilton Fire Department, where he achieved Life Member status. He rose through the ranks and served as Fire Chief from 1974 to 1976, and later helped form the Hilton Parma Fire District. He became one of the Fire District’s first Commissioners. He served as Deputy Fire Coordinator for the 2nd Battalion for 24 years and was inducted into the Hilton Alumni Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a devoted family man who took pride in his children and grandchildren. Bill’s legacy of service, friendship, and dedication to family and community will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

HOLLEY: Birecree, Stephen H. III “Steve,” died on May 31, 2026, at age 81. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Mildred Birecree Jr. He is survived by his brother, Mike (Teresa Rowland) Birecree; sister, Gail (Bob) Appleton; nieces and nephew, Kristen Appleton, Sean Birecree, and Caitlin Birecree. Steve was the owner and operator of Steve’s Barbershop in Hilton. He cherished the friendships he made through the years and enjoyed the conversations and camaraderie that came with serving generations of customers. In his free time, Steve had a passion for motorcycles, attending stock car races, hunting, and fishing. He was also a collector of firearms and appreciated their history, craftsmanship, and traditions.

HOLLEY: Bilohlavek, Annette R. “Nonnie, Net Net, Ma Dukes,” age 59, died unexpectedly on June 2, 2026. She was born September 27, 1966, in Brockport to Raymond Bilohlavek and Barbara Hovey. She was predeceased by her father, Raymond Bilohlavek; son, Brandon; grandson, Bryson Alexander Antram-Boyce; and Grammie B. Annette is survived by daughters, Brystal Antram and Bryana Antram; grandchildren, Zoey, Braxton, Kihana, and Kyla; mother Barbara (Lewis) Frederick; siblings, Ray Bilohlavek Jr., Michael (Lisa) Bilohlavek-Lavender, and Matt Bilohlavek; nieces and nephew, William, Emma, Gabriella, and Audriana; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She worked as a setup operator for 13 years at General Motors. Her most treasured memories came from the friendships she built during her time there. She loved tending her garden and cheering on her beloved Buffalo Bills. Known for her outgoing spirit and welcoming nature, she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like family. Her genuine kindness, warm smile, and caring heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be remembered for her laughter, her generosity, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.

HOLLEY: Keyes, Phyllis M., age 96, died June 8, 2026. Phyllis was born December 6, 1929, in Malden, Massachusetts, the only daughter of the late Harry and Mildred (Rock) Black. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husbands, Albert J. Denis Jr. (1980) and Sidney Keyes, Jr. (2023); brothers, Bernard Black and Frederick Black; sisters-in-law, Jutta Black and Constance Black; and stepdaughter, Janet (Bob) Perkins. She is survived by her son, Albert J. (Linda) Denis; daughters, Sharon (Allen) Robinson and Joy (James) Bowen; stepdaughter, Judy (Terry) Sheldon; stepson, Sidney, Jr. (Lynell) Keyes; grandchildren, Michele Strickland, Connie (Lance) Manning, Allen JG Robinson, Shannon Bowen, Carrie Shutz, Jennifer Wiseman, Phillip (Emily) Denis, Heather Bowen, Patrick (Abby) Robinson, Wendy (Robert) Beckenbach; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Phyllis was a homemaker from the time she was married until her children married and had families of their own.
