The Gorge Trail at Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca will be closed weekdays (Monday thru Friday) beginning Tuesday October 14, 2025. This closure will allow for the installation of several stone staircases and the repair of numerous stone walls, steps, and other features of the trail.
State Parks Trails and Masonry professionals will be able to complete these much-needed upgrades during the week and will ensure that the trails are accessible, open. and safe on Saturdays and Sundays. Some reroutes and minor detours may be necessary for the weekend access, but any such detours will be marked.
As a reminder, the Gorge Trail will close for the season once temperatures dip below freezing and ice begins to form on the trail and gorge walls.
