The Sewards of New York: Book Presentation and Signing

The Morgan-Manning House Museum will host Thomas P. Slaughter for a book presentation and signing of The Sewards of New York on Sunday, November 16, 2 p.m., at the Clarkson Academy, 8343 West Ridge Road, Clarkson. The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available to purchase from Lift Bridge Book Shop.
The Sewards of New York shines a light on one of the most important and fascinating political families of the nineteenth century. Through recently discovered family correspondence, Slaughter unveils the inner lives of the Seward family, tracing their joys and sorrows as the nation grappled with rapid expansion and deepening divisions on its path to the Civil War. The book was released in October 2025.
Thomas P. Slaughter is the Arthur R. Miller Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Rochester. He is also the author of Independence, Exploring Lewis and Clark, and The Whiskey Rebellion.
