Opinion & Comments: School DASA Reviews
I am a parent in the Churchville-Chili School District, and I am reaching out to raise awareness about the handling of DASA (Dignity for All Students Act) reviews in our schools. DASA is intended to protect students from bullying, harassment, and unsafe environments.
Recently, I requested the opportunity to review records related to a DASA review involving my daughter and to have an advocate present at any meeting. Despite these requests, the district continued to schedule a meeting without accommodating them. This has made an already stressful situation even more challenging for my child and for me as a parent.
My goal is not conflict. It is peace, safety, and resolution for my daughter. It is also my goal that parents understand their rights, because it seems important information is not always shared unless we ask or do our own research. Parents deserve transparency and the ability to advocate effectively for their children.
I hope that by sharing my experience, other families can be better informed and prepared, and that our schools continue to uphold the principles of safety and fairness for every student.
