Law Enforcement Torch Run

Supports Special Olympics New York
The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) passed through Spencerport on Friday, June 5, as the Flame of Hope makes its way around the state in support of Special Olympics New York. The run began at the Ogden Police Department headquarters and concluded with a ceremonial program at Pineway Ponds Park.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, LETR is a time-honored Special Olympics tradition led and orchestrated by the “Guardians of the Flame,” which includes members of law enforcement personnel from agencies throughout New York. Together with local athletes and supporters, LETR representatives raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics New York.
This year’s Torch Run honored the sudden and recent passing of Retired Lieutenant John Prewasnicak, who served 32 years with the Rochester Police Department. He was a key volunteer with Special Olympics New York, whose dedication and commitment to the Torch Run community will be greatly missed.
More than 100 members of local law enforcement and Special Olympics athletes participated in the event.
