Seven Spencerport firefighters participated in the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at ESL Ballpark on September 6.
Each walked the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs, signifying the World Trade Center’s 110 stories, while carrying the name of a firefighter who died on 9/11. The climb honors the 343 first responders who died during the 2001 terror attack and the first responders who continue to pass from 9/11-related cancer.
For the Spencerport firefighters, it was also an opportunity to remember one of their own: Firefighter Robert Fowler, who died while responding to a call on February 22, 1997. Fowler’s widow, Gail, was on hand in support of the NFFF.
The Spencerport team raised more than $1,400 to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which supports families of fallen firefighters and works to reduce firefighter deaths and injuries.
