Pilgrims, Pumpkin Pie & Politics: The True Story of Thanksgiving

The Greece Historical Society, in cooperation with the Greece Public Library, will welcome Christopher Bensch, Curator Emeritus of the Strong National Museum of Pay, to present “Pilgrims, Pumpkin Pie & Politics: The True Story of Thanksgiving” on Tuesday, November 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the library.
As we sit down to our turkey dinners and football bowl games, we’re actually following a mix of historic traditions that precede even the Puritans landing in New England. And, at the same time, there are some completely American and surprisingly new elements to our Thanksgivings. Learn about the lobbyists and laws, the predilection for pies, and the source for cranberries that go into our November holiday.
Christopher Bensch recently retired after 37 years at the Strong National Museum of Play as Vice President of Collections. He was in charge of overseeing the museum’s curatorial, conservation, and library functions as well as the more than 560,000 objects that make it the largest, most comprehensive collection of toys, games, dolls, and video games in the world.

Reservations are required and can be made online at https://greecepubliclibrary.org or by calling 585-225-8951.
